The social studies subject in grade 8 covers many topics such as the economic, social, and political systems of the government. It also covers how these governments are different between countries such as the United States of America versus Japan. This subject grade also covers colonization and the clashes between cultures. Additionally, this subject grade covers the innovations and inventions of different people.
Social Studies 9
The social studies subject in grade 9 teaches students about revolutions in countries such as France, Russia, and the United States. Students will also learn about residential schools, World War 1 internment camps, and discrimination. The grade 9 social studies topics will also cover global conflicts such as World War 1, the Russo-Japanese War, and the Opium Wars.
Social Studies 10
The social studies subject in grade 10 shows the role of Canada in military operations such as World War 1, World War 2, and joining NATO. It also covers conflicts inside Canada such as the Meech Lake Accord in 1987, the First Peoples' actions in conflicts, and the Calgary Declaration. Another large topic in social studies 10 covers human rights and the protests for equality, shown through Truth and Reconcilitation Day, the Bill of Rights, the Charter of Rights, and racism.

Social Studies 12
The social studies subject in grade 12 teaches students about the regimes of power in history, and it also teaches students about the civil wars against these regimes and human rights movements. Additionally, global conflicts such as World War 1, World War 2, and the Cold War is all discussed in the social studies 12 subject grade.
